Dhiren visited Verdura resort in Sicily in Spring 2014.

“We flew to Palermo with Alitalia and it was a comfortable flight with a drink and sandwich on board the airline. After 1.5 hours transfer to the south of Sicily, we arrived at the beautiful resort. Approached by a long driveway winding through the 3 golf courses, The Verdura Golf and Spa resort is set over 230 hectares of stunning landscape and a 1.8km private coastline. Yet with its 203 rooms and suites there is a true sense of space and privacy.

Check-in was quick, with a lovely glass of champagne and some canapés. We were shown to our lovely spacious deluxe rooms with all the amenities one can ask for, plus a beautiful view of the golf course with the stunning sea as a back drop.

All rooms have 4 poster beds and they all connect to accommodate larger families. There are two rows of accommodation; the first row known as the Landscape Villas (top level rooms and suites)  are closest to the sea and all on ground floor. The second row known as Courtyard Buildings are the entry level rooms which can either be on the ground floor or first floor.  The resort offers easy to access to all its facilities with golf buggies upon request and bicycles for all age groups are available to hire. They reminded me of the “Boris Bikes”!

The resort offers an array of activities for the more active guests such as tennis, golf, football (Juventus Summer training session), water sports, jogging routes and daily classes of Pilates and Yoga.

For those looking for a more tranquil experience the resort offers cooking lessons, pastry making lessons, mixology lessons, wine tasting (La Planeta vineyard recommended),  olive oil tasting, Sicilian nights with movies under the stars in the summer season and not forgetting relaxation in the 4000 sq m Spa.

For the more adventurous guests, the resort can organise 4 x 4 jeep safari, go-karting, horse riding, helicopter excursions to Taormina or Mount Etna. Moreover there are places of interest nearby such as the Valley of the Temples and archaeological sites of Agrigento, the authentic town of Callaberiotta and the local ceramic and coral town of Sciacca. All of the above can be arranged by the Private Concierge service, Rocco Forte Journeys.

The Verdura Golf and Spa resort is suitable for all ages with its high service and its relaxed approach. The kids club and teens club entertain the youth with daily activity programmes. With the stunning swimming pools surrounded by palm trees, beautifully landscaped golf courses and the lovely dining experience in the various restaurants, it adds up to a very impressive resort.”
