More reasons to love Sardinia

Today British Airways launches a new flight service from Gatwick to Sardinia’s Cagliari airport, so we’re celebrating by looking at some of our favourite places for families in Sardinia.

The Italian island has a stunning coastline and its own distinct cuisine, coming from Sardinian tradition. The shepherd’s wafers survice as crispy carusu, and the flavours of home-grown saffron, mint and myrtle permeate the dishes. Fresh fish and seafood feature highly on the menu as do the local dishes of fregola (pasta) and panadas (pies).

The family friendly resort of Forte Village in Sardinia makes the most of this culinary heritage, with twenty-one eateries covering a huge range of cuisines. Enjoy a laid-back snack or indulge in fine dining, with a Gordon Ramsay restaurant and one with a Michelin-starred chef at the helm.

If you’re worried that your little ones will turn their nose up at such fancy fare, you can rest assured that everything in this wonderful resort is done with families in mind and there is dedicated children’s restaurant as well. Your children may even be able to teach you a thing or too if they attend one of the fabulous cookery workshops!

The supervised kids club is just the start of the fun, as the resort also offers go-karting and a host of sporting academies where children can hone their skills and meet friends. The excellent creche for under-twos offers parents a helping hand and a bit of time off.

For a quieter experience of Sardinia, try Resort Valle dell’Erica which has an exclusive setting on the borders of the National Marine Park. The peaceful atmosphere and natural beauty are enjoyable in themselves, but there are lots of activities on hand as well.

Children can get involved in football and hockey matches, try out the creative jewellery studio, and learn the arts of pizza making, theatre, creative writing and photography course. Parents can take to the golfing greens with breathtaking sea views or indulge in the thalassotherapy spa. Whilst the gastronomic temptations are many, the chefs will also cater for the Dukan Diet, so you can keep to your good intentions.

So with the British Airways’ Gatwick flights as well as Easyjet’s Stansted flights bringing Sardinia ever closer, we’d be happy to talk to you about the right resort to suit your family.
