About The Hotel

Perched on a ridge overlooking the hills of Thailand, Myanmar and Laos, the Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp & Resort in Chiang Rai offers families a wonderful opportunity to walk with nature’s giants and experience these magnificent animals up close. The resort’s famed on-site elephant camp is designed as a traditional mahout village where families can learn to command their very own elephant through specialist mahout training courses.

The elephant camp is the highlight of Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp & Resort, offering families unforgettable adventures and unique experiences with a cast of gentle giants. Established in 2003 as a traditional mahout village, the camp works alongside the Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Foundation to perform street rescues, provide employment and a comfortable lifestyle for elephants and their entire mahout families.  As a mahout trainee you’ll learn to drive an elephant, trek along beautiful nature trails on the neck of your trusty steed, and take part in the river bathing ritual. The Walking with Giants programme involves a journey into the jungle with the elephants and their mahouts to watch as these gentle giants splash in the river or play in the mud, snack on leaves from nearby branches and socialise with the herd. While you meander together through the forest, you will learn more about elephant biology and behaviour from our resident veterinarian or biologist and discover more about the past, present and hopeful future for elephants in Thailand. For relaxation after a hard day’s elephant trekking, there is a spa and a large family swimming pool.

There are just 63 rooms at the Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp & Resort and all come equipped with spacious balconies, a king bed, down duvets and a superior range of amenities including bathrobes and leather compendium sets. The location in the heart of the Golden Triangle means stunning views across the Mekong River and out to Myanmar and Laos, or across the resort’s impeccable landscaped gardens. The Family Suites comprise a Deluxe Room connecting to a Suite to offer a space of 96 square metres, sleeping up to 2 adults and 4 children.

Dining at Anantara Golden Triangle Resort is a culinary journey through centuries of Lanna food culture that sits alongside Old World European favourites at two of the Golden Triangle’s best restaurants. Sala Mae Nam serves traditional Northern Thai food and is renowned for its famed Khao Soi Gai, a delicious northern-style yellow noodle coconut curry with chicken. Baan Dhalia serves Italian and Mediterranean cuisine and private dining is available alongside baby elephants in bamboo forests at the Elephant Camp.

The Golden Triangle Discovery Package for families is inclusive of meals, an in-room mini-bar and internet, an Opium Museum visit and a host of activities to choose from.
