About The Hotel

You can’t get closer to the blue sea than at LUX* Maldives (formerly known as Diva), an island resort surrounded by a clear lagoon, with many of the villas set on stilts over the crystal clear water. LUX* Maldives lives up to the dream of a paradise island with colourful marine life. With excellent childcare you are free to make the most of the famous dive sites or take a romantic picnic to a desert island. The resort’s own marine biologist is on hand to explain the wonders beneath the waves to parents and kids alike.

Special touches at LUX* Maldives include hidden pathways leading to impromptu cinema screenings on the beach and secret honesty bars dotted around the resort.

The kids club at LUX* Maldives has a variety of supervised activities for each age group. Kids can even have lunch and dinner at the club with their friends. The children will love the sandy beaches and welcoming lagoon.

There are some special activities including coconut painting, calligraphy, Bodu Beru dance, crab racing, making shell necklaces, henna painting, palm weaving, pirate crafts, puppet making and yoga classes specifically for children. Why not try a spot of Teddy Tennis or cake decorating too?

Children can also earn their Young Mixologist Certificate, learning how to mix their favourite juices, and try the Young Environmentalist Programme which includes a tour with the chief gardener of the tropical flora on the island, plus a visit to the herb garden and orchid nursery. Children also receive their own back pack, caps, t-shirts, colour pens and book for use during their stay. Personalised birthday parties can also be organised on request. New to LUX* Maldives, the resort now offers kids cooking classes too.

Teens meet daily at 5pm to get to know other guests on the island and plan activities. The Musik club operates as a sports cafe throughout the day and has a play station, Wii, soccer table, as well as a non-alcoholic bar. Most Tuesday nights Musik will operate a nightclub between 21.00 and 23.00 serving non alcoholic drinks.

If you work up an appetite trying your hand at all the activities on offer, you’ll enjoy the seven restaurants serving a wide range of food. At lunch you can enjoy the fresh local seafood grill by the beach or something more familiar with western favourites widely available. At the aptly named ‘East’ you will be able to tuck into the best of Cambodian, Indonesian, Thai, Sri Lankan, Hong Kong and Chinese-style buffets. There are other lighter meals not to mention drinks on offer at the resorts bars and other restaurants!

Guests have the option of staying in water villas based in the islands lagoon which have the novelty of a stairway leading down to the water, allowing you to dive when the wish arises. The villas are finished using local Maldivian wood flooring, the finest Egyptian cotton sheets and Pierre Frey fabrics from Paris which give bedrooms a warm and luxurious feel. The décor follows on from the lagoon colour, with hints of turquoise and shades of beige and ochre.

There are magnificent dive sites, suitable for both beginners and the advanced, with monitored instruction available. Guests can see parrot fish, eagle and sting rays, clown fish, stone fish, turtles and whale sharks. The boathouse organises trips for snorkelling over the reefs, as well as catamaran excursions and lessons. Windsurfing, rubber ring and banana rides, water-skiing, wakeboards, jet-skiing, pedal boats and kayaks are all available. The reef area itself is full of colourful specimens, many unique to the region. On land, enjoy beach volleyball, tennis and the gym. If you’ve worked up an appetite, you’ll enjoy the seven restaurants, not to mention the six bars.

The exclusive Infinity spa is nestled amongst lush, green vegetation, where you are welcomed by the Balinese team as your feet are bathed with water and botanicals. Benefit from the therapeutic effects of the steam room followed by the ice room and the sauna and then relax in the pool or chill out on the double canopy. Choose a treatment villas hidden privately in the lush Spa Garden, or a deluxe treatment villa over water, with a glass bottomed floor allowing you to watch the fish and coral during your massage.

  • SW 23 April 2014 "We liked it a lot, the overall package was very good, we may do it again next year!

The kids club and babysitting was superior to Carlisle Bay / Antigua, and so were the rooms, and the service / food as well, so the value for money was there. Snorkelling and seeing Whalesharks was amazing. So overall extremely good, I would give it 5/5."

  • Anon by request 06 November 2013 "What an incredible place! We spent 9 nights at lux Maldives in a beach villa with our four year old son. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel incredibly welcome and everything was wonderful - location, kids club, food and most of all the staff. My husband and I have stayed in top hotels many times and have never experienced this standard of service and care. My son loved the kids club particularly Ruby and Mibu, and the room attendant left clever towel arrangements on his bed almost every day. The island is magical and the accommodation is lovely. We were on the sunset side but the beach on the lagoon side is a bit nicer and calmer.
We were already discussing that we wanted to rebook next year after 6 days of our 9.
It wasn't just the excellent quality of the food, the accommodation, the natural beauty of the island which made this so special, it was the genuine friendliness and care given by all the staff which makes this resort the most special we have ever stayed in. We will be back. Thank you so much Lux Maldives."

  • KC 09 April 2012 "We've had an amazing time. Paradise really does exist!!!!

There are too many good things to say about this place, from the amazing scenery and warm shallow waters, to the barefoot living and the surprise towel origami left on the children's beds at night - elephants, swans, etc etc.

We found the staff incredibly friendly especially towards the children and especially at the pool bar, they really couldn't do enough for you.

We enjoyed the food everywhere, great choice at the buffets and we especially enjoyed the dining experiences at Senses and in particular Allegria positioned on the beach however we did think the menu at Allegria was slightly sparse, but still very enjoyable. Having two fussy eaters 3yr old and 7yr old the option of kids menu was a blessing.

We were fortunate to experience accommodation on both sides of the island and probably enjoyed the calmer quieter side of the sunrise side, but both equally amazing and beautiful.

The small touches like the cold flannels and drinks on arrival and the bottles of water as we left the island. Our kids loved the golf buggies which ferry you around the island and a real bonus was the daily ray and shark feeding - amazing!!!!!!

My only real moan was the kids club! Whilst I was happy to leave my 7yr old, I wasn't overly comfortable leaving my 3yr old. There didn't always appear to be enough staff for the number of children and at times seemed a bit unorganised and chaotic. My major concern was when the kids club went for a cool down swim at the pool, my youngest was still learning to swim, hence we made the decision to be around the pool at these times to keep sufficient eye on them. Also no cap t-shirt or back pack as mentioned on your website!

We did feel truly looked after from the moment we stepped off the flight in Male and are now working out how soon we can go back!!

    Any discounts????
Thanks for your advice and recommendation"

  • Anon by request 04 February 2012 "We have just returned from a fabulous trip to Lux Maldives, and are already trying to plan our return. Ann Marie at Tots Too was most helpful and everything went seamlessly. We spent time in both an over water villa and an interconnecting beach villa, that made it easy with our young children. There was a huge variety of things to do, from cookery lessons, to cocktail making along with the usual selection of watersports. The staff went out of their way to make our holiday really special. It was extremely child friendly, clean and well kept with great attention to detail. The food (and cocktails!) were delicious . I would really recommend Lux to anyone looking for a relaxing family break in the winter sun"

  • SD 13 May 2011 "We had a lovely holiday. Our comments on the hotel are as follows:
We had a fantastic time with our 4.5 month old - we couldn't have chosen a better destination. The villa was absolutely amazing - it was on the sunset side as we had requested. This meant we had a lovely beach area in front of the villa and also the sun did not shine in the room first thing in the morning and wake the baby up! We also were provided with an Avent steriliser - home from home. Housekeeping arranged to come morning and evening when we requested so we could work round the baby's naps. All the staff were amazing, they loved cuddling and talking to our son.
The food was excellent - we preferred the Italian and Indian but even the two buffet restaurants were very good - just remember to check out what food they are serving each day which is listed on the activities sheet by the breakfast restaurant.
We were quite anxious travelling with a small baby for the first time but Ann Marie was very patient with all my stupid questions and requests and we feel we choose the right holiday - L was able to lie on the covered veranda with me on the day bed and when he was sleeping I lay on the beach within earshot. The gym facilities were excellent as well and nice for L to have a bit of time where it was cool. The only thing we could think of where they could do better (extremely minor) was to be more speedy at re-laying tables at breakfast - so I would thoroughly recommend it!
One thing to be aware of is that the sea plane is very noisy and I would recommend taking a couple of pairs of ear plugs for the baby when they offer them. I found them difficult to keep in his ears so did keep loosing them (hence get some spares). He did find the noise a bit distressing and the plugs did seem to help. Also the sea plane does tend to stop off at more than one resort so there are a couple of ups and downs. Also if like us you had a lot of luggage we did have to pay extra for the sea plane which was not excessive but interestingly they didn't seem to charge for the pram, which you definitely need. So we will now be going back to Ann Marie for help for our holiday in the autumn!"

  • IH 23 February 2011 "We had an absolutely amazing holiday, and really can't thank you enough for suggesting it. We were very fragile, after a tough couple of years, and it was just what we needed.
It takes some serious brain wracking to think of anything to complain about (homicidal buggy drivers aside). My only very minor irritation was that after an overnight flight, waiting for over two more hours at Male for the seaplane, no matter how nice the Diva lounge was, was a bit long. I do understand though that check in at the hotel is not till 2pm, and with us arriving at just after 9am in Male, there had to be some hanging around somewhere. [Diva is the previous name for LUX*].

The rooms were spotless, and the bathrooms tidied twice daily. They kept the beach well raked - and even raked the sand in the moat of the sandcastle we built one day!

We borrowed snorkelling equipment every day, but would have happily left a deposit so we didn't have to return them at 5.30 every day - early evening when it was a little cooler, and the tide was back in would have been a really nice time to snorkel off the beach, but we weren't able to because of the back by 5.30 rule, which was a (very small) pity.

The girls loved to watch the sting rays, and baby sharks being fed every evening. We all did in fact. One small worry about that was that one of the large rays had a sore on it's side where it was being encouraged to come up the steps to take food from people's hand. I'm sure that that is contrary to all sorts of guidelines, but confess we didn't want to mention it to the manager, because we didn't want to get anyone else into trouble. We did notice that we have a really clear photograph of it yesterday though, so may e-mail it to them, so they can adjust their practice slightly. A tricky one though, because it is really appealing, but can't be good for the fish.

The food in all the restaurants was of a consistently high quality, and the best we have had in the Maldives, by some margin (we've previously stayed at Kanuhura, and on Gan). All the restaurants were excellent, though Senses was our favourite (and we never made it to Veli, or to East for dinner, though we had breakfast there every day).

Service in all the restaurants was a bit patchy (though again we found Senses best). Allegria was pretty poor - we asked for more water and wine, three times, and it never came. Allegria seems to think of itself as a bit special, but really would have to provide better service to be good. The staff in Seasons seemed to be easily panicked, and again it was hard to get orders in sometimes if they suddenly got busy - you might place an order, but you were never sure if it would come.

It was a bit odd, and disappointing, having paid for fully inclusive, and being able to drink all sorts of alcohol including cocktails as part of that, to not be able to order sparkling water. We did try to talk to someone about it, but was given short shrift.

We didn't use the kids club. Mainly because we were having so much fun, but also because they didn't list the week's activities on the weekly or daily schedule, apart from a three hour cooking session. If we'd been that bothered, I am sure we could have found out what they were doing, but we really didn't have time! We never actually saw any children in there any time we passed though, so maybe we were not the only ones.

We found all the staff to be incredibly friendly. Especially towards the children. I cannot tell you what a joy that is. It just makes everyone happy. Our girls are quite shy, and by the end of the week, they were really coming out of their shells with the staff - even playing cards with one of the waitresses in Senses while we waited for our food, which was so lovely.

The rooms were a good size for us, and it was really handy with three children to have two bathrooms! Even though they were in outside spaces, they were never unbearably hot because they were well shaded. We were in another room, having drinks with another family (a beach villa I think) and though it's bathroom was much bigger, there was little shade, and it really was uncomfortably hot.

This is going to sound mad, but we didn't use the Spa, because we decided we were so relaxed because everything was so nice that it would be a waste of time! We've never ever passed up the chance of a massage or treatment on holiday! It did look nice though.

You were SO right to suggest that room style for us. We were happy pottering in and out most mornings. We snorkelled off the beach in front of the room, as well as in the lagoon at the other side, and saw an amazing variety of fish. There was a fair bit of rubbish in the sea though, which was a shame. I'm sure it didn't come from the resort (nappies, broken glass, crisp packets etc) but maybe they could be persuaded to go snorkelling themselves from time to time and gather some of it. The girls were a bit upset the first time they came across a used nappy in the sea, and we fished it out, but gave up when we realised that we'd do nothing else all week if we kept going. Maybe that's normal though.

This is beginning to sound like a list of moans, but is really isn't. We had the most wonderful, exciting, relaxing, beautiful holiday. We can't thank you enough, and I am confident we would recommend it to anyone (which is not something I usually say without qualification!).

    Thank you again"

  • JP 20 February 2011 We just wanted to let you know what a fantastic week we had at Diva in the Maldives [Diva is the previous name for LUX*]. Thank you so much for all your help on deciding on the best island for us and with the final booking, we have already recommend your company to some of our friends and we wouldn’t hesitate to do so in the future.

Diva itself worked out so well for us and T and D (aged 4) and I’m still not sure which of us had the best time. From the moment we arrived in Male, the Diva staff looked after us, the lounge at the sea plane airport is a real bonus, and although we luckily didn’t have a long wait, the air conditioning, cold towels and refreshments were welcome after the long flight. Once at the island the interconnecting rooms that you suggested were ideal and really enabled us to feel comfortably close enough to the boys, but without the challenges of having to share the same room. The facilities on the island were great, the staff were all so friendly and always went out of their way to speak to the boys and make them feel at home. All of the restaurants were a good standard, and again really looked after the boys and made them feel welcome, those that were not buffet style all had a kids menu and made sure that they took the boys orders and brought their food to the table as quickly as possible.

The kids club was also a real success and the boys wanted to spend some time there almost every day, they were always well looked after and kept entertained. We got into a bit of a routine most afternoons were the boys would go to the kids club for a couple of hours, which would allow us to go out on one of the afternoon snorkeling trips, we would come back and take them to see the baby sharks or sting rays being fed and then we would all end up at the swimming pool, were the boys played and drinks were provided by the excellent bar staff while the sun set.

The watersports team were all great and one day we hired a speed boat for the four of us for a couple of hours. Two of the staff took us out to a sand bank, and whilst one of the team came out snorkeling with Mum and Dad, the other stayed on the sand bank with the boys and built sand castles with them until we got back, again another great example of how they went out of their way to look after everyone.

Finally I also wanted to say thank you for the recommendation of the all inclusive package, although it obviously added to the upfront cost of the holiday it was so much more relaxing while we were there to not be thinking about the price of the meals or drinks, especially if one of the boys decided that they didn’t like something. The choice is also still very good in all the restaurants/bars and you always have the option to order a la carte if you chose to do so. Once again thank you so much for helping us book such a fantastic holiday for the whole family."

  • DH 30 January 2011 "We had a fantastic holiday, thank you very much for your recommendations and booking. Diva [Diva is the previous name for LUX*] was a great resort for kids, lots of children there and the beaches and water sports centre great for them. The adjoining rooms were perfect and well equipped. We took lots of snorkeling gear but it was all available free at the water sports centre so maybe worth letting people know as it takes up luggage space and you really don't need it.

The kids club was good, well equipped with nice staff. Baby sitting services were great. And the kids enjoyed eating lunch there, the kids menu was also good. Quite often the organized activities didn't run because there weren't enough kids around, I think if maybe there was a more energetic management of the club maybe more European direction leading it then maybe more kids would be interested in attending. There often seems to be a lack of momentum in these places and bit of a baby sitting mentality as opposed to inspiring the kids.

Had a great holiday and would highly recommend the whole experience. Sea plane was good and no problem with kids."

  • MV 21 December 2010 I just thought I’d let you know what a fantastic time we had at Diva [Diva is the previous name for LUX*]. We found it very family orientated.

The staff were outstanding, so helpful & polite, they all fell in love with our daughter who was spoilt rotten !!!

The food was delicious & fresh everyday & they really went all out for Christmas & new year. New year’s eve was a great party. I’m very glad we took your advice on the all inclusive option as I think it was good value and so did everyone else we met.

Anyway I just thought I would let you know that we absolutely loved it and will probably go back there, so thank you for your personal recommendation, it was much appreciated."

  • EH 21 November 2010 "We absolutely LOVED Diva! [Diva is the previous name for LUX*]. Thanks so much for organising it. The hotel by far exceeded our expectations - the food was amazing, the staff were lovely and the setting truly breath taking.

Thank you for all your help with the trip. We will definitely come back to you for more recommendations for other holidays."

  • SB 02 November 2010 "Just want to say thank you very much for your help with regard to finding us our holiday. We had a lovely time and it was great to go to a place which catered for children. The inter-connecting room was perfect and without it I think the holiday would have been very different! So thank you for finding that too.
We will definitely look you up again when we look to go away again."

  • JW 31 August 2010 "We had a fantastic time. Would definitely recommend you and Diva [Diva is the previous name for LUX*]. It was truly idyllic. The service was impeccable and very child friendly. We were worried that we may interrupt the honeymooners but our children were v welcome.
Couple of niggles, v minor but in the spirit of continuous improvement, they were:

    1. Babysitting, I was under the impression babysitting was $10 dollars an hour but it was actually $10 per child per hour. It didn't stop us enjoying ourselves though.

    2. We asked reception a couple of questions which were ignored, even after repeating them a couple of times! Again wasn't a big deal.

    3. We had to wait 2 and a half hours for a seaplane on the way out. That was annoying and tiresome, but the lounge saved the day. Without that I think we would have complained.

Finally we are due to go to Abu Dhabi at Xmas could you recommend any good hotels?

We would definately book through you again."

  • AM 24 June 2010 "I recently returned from my honeymoon spending 5 nights in Diva in the Maldives and I must say, it surpassed my expectations in every way [Diva is the previous name for LUX*]. The resort is accessed via Seaplane and upon arrival all Tots Too guests have access to the lounge at Male Airport where cold towels and even cooler drinks are offered. There is even a shower to refresh after the flight if you wish. We were here for a few moments only before being whisked off to the seaplane. This newly upgraded and renovated resort opened its doors in 2008 and expertly combines 5* luxury with traditional Maldivian decor, facilities and charm. The resort offers a wide choice of accommodation including deluxe rooms which uniquely to this resort in the Maldives will interconnect and I would recommend this for a family who want children to have separate sleeping space but be close enough to give you peace of mind. They also offer spacious beach villas, 2 types of water villas , water villa and prestige water villa. The resort was formerly white sands and the standard water villas are the renovated water villas, the prestige water villas are newly added and slightly larger. For families with teens or couples travelling together they also offer family water villas (interconnecting water villas) and finally the Presidential water villa. We booked the beach villa and loved it. You enter into the room either via the luxurious outdoor bathroom or via the side entrance into the bedroom. The rooms are spacious at around 95sq ft and boast a king size bed, indoor seating area, twin sinks and vanity area, 2 large wardrobes backing onto the partially outside bathroom and outside shower. The bathroom boasts a large marble sunken tub, large rain shower and then a separate non-covered rain shower as well. The front section of the bedroom opens on to an outdoor deck with seating area for in villa dining, a day bed and boasts views out to the sea. A few steps off the deck and we have our own loungers and umbrella and as the villas are so spaced out it feels like you have your own little stretch of beach and your own little bit of paradise. We arrived to the resort to find a bottle of chilled champagne waiting for us and we got our swimming costumes on and headed straight into the warm waters of the Indian Ocean. I would recommend requesting a room on the Sun Set side of the Island as the beaches are wider and this side is better for swimming.

There are a wide choice of bars and restaurants, we booked on the pure experience program which I would highly recommend as this is essentially all inclusive and makes it really good value for money. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included and you can dine in almost all of restaurants and there are specially marked items which are included in the package and if you want something else you simply pay for that. The hotels main restaurant ‘Noo’ serves a wide choice of food for breakfast and lunch and dinner with a luxury buffet. They served sushi, sashimi cuisine, salads, pastas, meat, fish and vegetables. The food was delicious and did not feel like a typical big buffet. We took our lunch each day in either Seasons, Senses or Veli bars which served casual meals around the pools or by the beach and we could chose from sandwiches, wraps, salads, fish and pasta dishes. The wide choice of dining options includes an Italian and a Japanese Restaurant as well as a Maldivian restaurant and a Thai Restaurant as well as casual dining in the bars for lunch. They even have a pancake and ice cream station available with afternoon tea. We did not have a bad meal!

The resort boasts a Dive Centre and the ‘boathouse’ offers a wide choice of non-motorised and motorised water sports. We enjoyed picking up snorkelling equipment each day and exploring the waters from the shore and we even did the boat trip out to the nearby reef which was I have to say one of the most amazing experiences I have had. Crystal clear waters teaming with a variety of fish and vibrant colours of the coral just beneath us, it took my breath away! You can even see whale shark near the Island and again another boat trip is available for this, unfortunately we were moving on by this point so were not able to sample this but we spoke to some very happy people who had done the trip they day we arrived and they had spotted them!

We both had a massage in the beautifully decorated spa and I also had a pedicure, it’s not cheap but then I did not expect it to be. They did offer some early bird specials so check this out with reception before you book so as not to miss any deals. The hotel also boasts a great kids club called the Nest which offers a combination of arts and crafts and sports as well as keeping the kids entertained with kids yoga, mixing their favourite juices and the young environmentalist program learning about the flora and fauna of the Island. For the older kids they offer the teen club with compute games a fuse ball table and big screen TV. As well as for the babies a sleeping area and babysitting. The hotel can also provide baby foods, nappies, swimming diapers and sterilizers (some charges may apply). They also have tennis courts as well as bikes for hire.

This resort is superb for families and is gaining in popularity, but for couples and honeymooners too don’t worry it is never overrun and there is always a piece of paradise to be found with peace and tranquillity at every turn. Families will love the kids amenities, the kids club staff and the family friendly room set up. Honeymooners will love the wide stretches of beach, the fabulous gourmet cuisine, the beautiful rooms and the multitude of activities. I honestly did not want my trip to end!

  • A 16 May 2010 "We went to Diva with our four children, aged 10 to 4, to celebrate my 40th birthday [Diva is the previous name for LUX*]. At Diva, it really is a Robinson Crusoe like existence with beautiful clear water surrounding the island, golden sand and amazing wildlife from herons to bats to stingrays. We had interconnecting rooms in a beach villa; the rooms were very spacious and beautifully tidied by the staff twice a day. In addition, there are two fabulous infinity swimming pools, efficient and friendly service, a wide variety of restaurants and bars with fabulous food, and a wonderful diving school (dive boats going out in the morning and afternoon every day). Our children had not really been to a 'Kids Club' before but thoroughly enjoyed the acitivities run by Zu and Imma at the Kids Club in Diva. I have no hesitation in recommending Diva for a family holiday. It was very stylish whilst providing lots of fun for the children and happy memories for all of us.

  • S 23 November 2009 Review from guest in November 2009: "Deborah, Just to say that we had a fantastic holiday in the Maldives. Diva was beautiful and they looked after us very well [Diva is the previous name for LUX*]. We really appreciated both upgrades to full board and the Junior suite, and the sea plane transfer was an amazing experience. The food was very good and we loved the wildlife.
I must mention the kids club, which was excellent and the lady there who ran it, called Zuu, was just great with M. It's a far superior kids club to others in the 5* hotel peer group that I could mention.

Once again, thanks for all of your help with our family holiday. I shall continue to recommend you to friends and shall be in touch again for our next venture !

  • N 15 November 2009 "Dear Ann Marie

Thanks for your email, we had a lovely time and didn't want to come back! Thank you very much for all your help - everything ran very smoothly and we didn't have any problems and we even managed to get the upgrade to the water villa so that was superb advice from you.

The Maldives are lovely and the resort [Diva] is immaculate with crystal clear turquoise water and beautiful white sand. It has great facilities and restaurants especially the spa which is fantastic. The staff at the resort were lovely - only bettered by the help, advice and service we got from Essental Escapes / Tots Too which was absolutely excellent as it always is.

Thanks again for all your help especially with all the little details. We recommend you to anyone and everyone!

Good luck with all the plans for the wedding."
