Reviews from Tots Too guests of Almyra in Cyprus
from (Anon by request), guest in August 2011: "Overall it was a positive experience.
* The interconnecting rooms worked very well for us with a lovely view to the sea. Any minot issues we had with the room, such as not being able to get the Tv to work were always dealt with quickly and politely. Housekeeping were always very good and left the room tidy.
* The outside space by the childrens pool was nice, the canopy over the pool a touch of genius. Although there was the usual situation of having to get up early to secure a pool spot with shade, which was irritating.
* The buffet and children's food, bearing in mind that I really dislike buffets in general, was very very good with always a good variety of food and well cooked. The same with the breakfast.
* The staff were very helpful and it was a very child friendly hotel. We actually hired a car one day and went to the sister hotel the Anassa near Poli for a swim and lunch and I would say that is a nicer Hotel with a better restaurant, but presume is much more expensive. It isn't as child friendly for very young children as I could see them getting sun burnt and very hot quite quickly there. The menu was less tailored towards babies as well.
My negative and the one which would stop me going back again was purely based on Paphos, which isn't our type of town at all. Also Cyprus as an island from what we saw didn't appear to be the prettiest island we've been to."
from LA, guest in April 2011: "We absolutely loved our time at the Almyra. Hotel very stylish; staff incredibly friendly and bent over backwards to accommodate us and our daughter; great spa; brilliant creche with lovely staff. The selection of different pool / sunlounger areas was great - we enjoyed using the quiet adults-only pool area in the mornings when our daughter was in the creche, and then the other child-friendly pool in the afternoon when she was with us - the best of both worlds.
The biggest surprise was the food - which was of such a high standard. All of the in-house restaurants were absolutely delicious - we didn't eat anywhere else!
We will definitely be going back. Thanks for all of your help in booking this for us."
from JZ, guest in October 2010: " We had a great time at the Almyra. Whilst perhaps not as glamorous as the Anassa it really was wonderful for children.
The covering over the main pool was a real hit and meant absolutely no worries re the sun. The staff were great and obviously all loved kids and the food was really good, for adults and children alike.
Only very minor grumbles -
Big wedding on the first night for something like 1,000 guests. Very noisy most of the night.
The restaurants insisted on providing bottled water from Wales of all places. Had to fight very hard just to get some local water at a tenth of the price.
Would have been good to have black-out blinds in the rooms, particularly the baby's room.
As I say, very minor grumbles. We had a great time and thank you for suggesting it. We will certainly recommend you to our friends"
from KM, guest in August 2010: "We enjoyed the holiday very much. We liked both hotels, we felt a week in each place was right for us. The Almyra is very good. We were very pleased with our room, the kids club and the quality of the food. In particular, the quality of the children's food was much better than we have experienced elsewhere as it is homemade. The spa area is beautifully laid out and we enjoyed having some time there when the children were in the club. The staff were all very helpful.
A few areas for improvement. The hotel was not full when we were there and we would not have wanted to be in it when it was. On the weekends it was much busier as they have a special deal on for local Cypriots. At this point it was difficult to find a space around the family pool or the spa pool. This would prove frustrating when they are full, there are simply not enough sun beds. As we left it felt that this was becoming an issue. Also, although the restaurant food was excellent, two weeks would have been a bit much as there are only two restaurants and it would be nice to have more variety. Paphos does not really have any restaurants of a high standard, bar one Japanese restaurant opposite the hotel. Finally, for a hotel of this calibre I think they should provide bottled water in your room free not just on arrival. I would probably not recommend for older children as I don't think there would be enough facilities for them. It works best for babies and up to around 7/8 I think.
Le Meridien is obviously very different ... [continues with review of Le Meridien Limassol, read in full here] ... Having tried various places over the last few years, I think there seems to be no perfect place, there is always some element of compromise. I'd be interested in your thoughts.
I want to emphasise that I don't want you to think I am moaning as we had a great time, these are just some things we have thought about on reflection. The dual centre worked very well for us. Also, your help was excellent. I feel that you explained the differences to me very well and we knew exactly what to expect. We would definitely use Tots Too again."
from AW, guest in July 2010: "Almyra was fantastic. The best part being the food, which although is not cheap, is of the quality of a very good London restaurant - I don't think we had one bad drink or meal (the cocktail list is very extensive!). The service was wonderful - everyone at the resort was very friendly and always willing to help and with a raucous 1 year old, this was very appreciated! It was never too much trouble to go and get the highchair and accomodate our requests - the baby food (puree of your choice really) was a huge plus as were the older children's meals. On the final few nights there was a children's buffet from 6-8pm which was also fantastic. We were unwilling to get a babysitter each night, so the hotel staff on many nights wonderfully delivered room service to our terrace (we were in a Terrace Sea View Room) and then collected it from there so our daughter could stay asleep inside the room and we could dine outside overlooking the restaurant and the ocean, which for us, was just as good as eating out! The pool was also fantastic and the large canopy overhead allowed us to stay in there with our daughter for as long we wanted without having to worry about the July sun.
The other wonderful service is the Baby go Lightly which is a great help to have things such baby formula in your room upon your arrival. The steriliser and bottle warmer were also both great touches which made our room feel a home away from home. We would comment however that there is a fantastic supermarket a short walk away which has everything you could ever need for a baby and you could quite easily make a quick trip there and stock up on your first day.
Our only slight negative comments is probably the room itself. The bathroom was very small, you couldn't even stand in the bath flat it was that narrow, and while the room itself was quite big, it certainly wasn't anything special given the cost. The cost per night is probably paying for the service, and the hotel itself - the room is just a standard room, less than you would expect from such a resort. The bar fridge was also small and not very cold so was not overly conducive to storing baby food (which is obviously the point but a little ridiculous given it prides itself on being a baby-friendly boutique resort and you often need emergency baby food!).
Another couple we met there commented that given how much you are paying, there weren't many small touches like happy hour, or a free cocktail with your meal which would have been a nice touch. We did have a Japanese banquet on the final night however which was superb - we paid for it but the food was Nobu standard if not better which had us sold on another stay at the hotel in the future!
All in all we had a fantastic time and we will certainly be going back and have already thought about our next trip. We didn't see much of Cyprus but that was through choice and must have meant that we had no real reason to leave the hotel!
I hope that helps! We will definitely recommend you and will be using you for our next trip.
PS we didn't use the creche (given as working parents we wanted to see X for the short time we had!), but we heard very good things about it and the staff there seemed to do a wonderful job including taking the children out for little walks and excursions etc. We will use this next time!"
from CW, guest in July 2010: "We had a wonderful holiday, a fantastic break... We absolutely loved the hotel, stunning setting and beautifully decorated and fitted out. Both Kids Clubs were superb and we had no problems getting the boys to go. We thought the new spa was wonderful, plus the accompanying 'adult only' infinity pool. The service was superb, lovely staff who were very helpful and accommodating. The food was also very good in both restaurants. Taxi pick ups from the airport etc all very efficient.
In terms of negative feedback, there were a few things it's probably worth me letting you know:
- Sunbeds were a real issue! I'm sure this is a common problem the world over but there were huge, very comfortable sunbeds by both swimming pools but by the end of the middle of the week they were literally being bagged at 7am!! It was a real shame as I'm afraid I wasn't prepared to set my alarm in order to get a sunbed but we spent the final 3/4 days with nowhere to sit down by the pool - this had a majorly negative impact on the holiday for us.
- The TV's in the bedrooms were at least 10 years old, very old fashioned and dated which was a real shame as the bedrooms had obviously undergone a refurb and the TV's stood out like a sore thumb!
- Price of the wine - the wine list was very expensive, even the local Cypriot wine which was a shame as we enjoy having a bottle with our dinner but at £40 a go, it was outpricing the food!
A huge thank you to you for all your help with booking the holiday, we really had a wonderful time."
from DB, guest in July 2010: "Thank you for your note, we had a fantastic stay in the Almyra in Cyprus, the room was lovely, we were delighted that the hotel went to the trouble to make up a separate bed for our daughter. The food was fantastic, children's portions being huge!, the pool area was lovely with lots of toys for the children to play with. Our daughter enjoyed a lovely afternoon at kids club where she went bowling. All staff were friendly and could not do enough to ensure a comfortable stay.
A couple of points I would mention, on the hotel website they mention DVD players in the room which I could not locate, the televisions in the room were also of very poor standard (this was mentioned to the hotel). Finally the WFI in the hotel was poor which is a key requirement for our family. I would like to hear your feedback on these points.
However, the holiday was seamless from us arriving at the hotel and departing five days later, we had a wonderful time and would recommend the hotel and your service to our friends and family."
from MA, guest in January 2010:
We had a great time at the Almyra. We can be quite difficult to please but we thought it all worked very well and thank you ever so much for recommending it. Kids club was a big success and the mix between family areas and the adults only spa worked well.
from SP, guest in November 2009 "We thought that the hotel and the service from Tots Too were excellent thanks. We had a great holiday and would certainly recommend Tots Too. We weren't that impressed with Cyprus / Pafos but we had been pre warned and as it was our first holiday with our little one it was good to start off with a reasonably short flight. Will have to start thinking about the next trip."
from MR, guest in October 2009 "I just wanted to sat we had a fabulous time - the weather was excellent, and the hotel was superb. They are so good with kids, our son had a wonderful time playing with us and with some of the other children. It is also very nice for adults too - the spa area and the infinity pool is very nice.
We also chose correctly with the room being a sea view with terrace - it worked perfectly for us being on the ground floor with the grass outside and easy access to the pool.
Our only observations were -
1. confirming what you had said about the garden view rooms - they would have spoilt the holiday. I would even go as far as to advise your customers that if they can only afford the garden rooms they would be better using their money at a different hotel.
2. The playground for children is not good. The swings are rusty and broken, and the ground is really uneven and dirty.
However we did have a wonderful time, and I thank you for what you arranged. You and your company were very efficient and user friendly, and we will definitely be using you again - probably at the Almyra!"
from LD, guest in October 2009 "The hotel was great, with one exception which I will mention. I actually got ill on holiday and had to go into hospital which put a dent in things for me, but that wasn't your fault! The one problem with the hotel was that they had a wedding very close to our room on the first night, which included loud music outdoors. The hotel staff were very helpful in providing another room for us to shift into for the night, but unfortunately even in the new room I could hear the bass beat of the music faintly and I tend to sleep poorly once awakened. However, when I spoke to one of the managers he agreed to refund 50% of the room rate, which I felt was sufficient to make up for the problem. The staff were very helpful throughout, and we would definitely consider going back as it was setup so well for children and parents. My one suggestion would be to check with the hotel about events when booking rooms - we would have preferred to have a less good room if it was quieter. We felt that the rest of the stay was good enough that it didn't require a full refund.
Thanks very much Atarra, I will be in touch with you again early next year because we like the look of the Sani Village you were telling me about and the wife is very keen to get something booked with you again."
from NT, guest in September 2009 "We had a fantastic time, thank you very much, very nice hotel with excellent facilities for B. They really can't do enough for you, anything we asked for we got with minimum of fuss. I found all the staff very friendly and understanding of our needs, it was great …Just a big thank you for your help on the booking and we will definitely come back to you to talk about next year which we are already talking about!
I would add and say the girls in the creche were fantastic. Kate is a qualified nursery nurse, ex nanny and now runs a nursery in a private girls school so they had a very qualified judge and she couldn’t speak highly enough of the cleanliness and general wellbeing she had in leaving our 20 month in there in the mornings….I know this is a worry for every parent, but they truly are very good and it helped relax our mornings in the spa!
Thanks very much again"
from KK, guest in May 2009 "It was our first time on holiday with our 1 year old and we were a bit stressed as you can imagine...we had absolutely nothing to worry about one phone call to Tots Too and it was all taken care of. We had a fantastic time in Almyra Cyprus which was a beautiful hotel and all the bookings were taken care of. The Baby Go Lightly programme is great as everything is already in your room on arrival. A bit pricey, but you get what you pay for...We do not hesitate to recommend you!!"
