reviews of le meridien limassol, cyprus

Review from CV, guest in April 2011: "We had an excellent time - everything ran really smoothly so thank you for your help. We thought you gave us a very accurate description of the hotel when you said it was probably 4.5 star rather than 5 - we agreed and it was completely in line with expectations. The Kids club was excellent and the pool facilities wonderful. The garden villa was more spacious than we expected so that was really positive - the photos on the website looked single storey but it was two storeys. The half board buffets were very good quality and choice. Probably the only real negative was the Limassol itself could only be described as a dump despite the guidebooks implying otherwise - it was just full of diggers which our 2.5 year old boy appreciated but the rest of us were less impressed!
We will certainly recommend you to others and consider using you again."

Review from SB, guest in October 2010: "Thank you very much for organising. The transfer was perfect as was everything else. I have stayed in lots of very nice hotels, but must say the service was excellent. We will be looking to go again early in the NY and I want to book with you again as I found your service excellent so I will be in contact again soon."

Review from DG, guest in September 2010 "We had a great time, a very relaxing week and we would definitely go back. The staff were fantastic and I agree with others that the Penguin club is a great children’s club. Really friendly and welcoming staff and great facilities. The food was very good, we ate at the buffet most nights which I was very impressed with. The quality and variety was really high for a buffet. We also ate at the Japanese and Italian restaurants which were excellent.

The grounds are lovely and the pools, spa and gym were top class as well. Great facilities incl tennis, mini-golf, football pitch etc all of which were easy to access and very helpful staff. The beach was fine but not a real attraction.

On the downside the rooms do need a make-over. They were definitely not 5 star and the whole main building needs a refresh – think 1980s midwest Sheraton. The bath / shower was poor and a some of the fittings looked a bit shoddy. Plus they need flat screens – must be mandatory for 5 star places these days. The size though was good and the beds very comfortable and service excellent. It was definitely the right call having two interconnecting rooms – the family room would have been way to cramped for 4 of us. The sea view did look great but the view from our side was pleasant and it was the right call saving the £1200 to go with garden view rooms.

The one-bedroom rooms (700 numbered I think) looked the best, great location and were much newer. Maybe next time...

We would definitely go back but mainly because of the boys. If it was just the two of us I think you could prob do 5 star a bit better elsewhere (and closer...). But a great trip so thank you very much."

Review from SS, guest in August 2010: "We spent a week at Le Meridien with our kids - 3yrs and 2yrs. Did not know what to expect as we seldom travel within Europe for a family holiday... so here are the details -

Flight - EasyJet out of Gatwick. It was better timed than BA and much cheaper but then you realise why it is cheaper. Even though we paid for Speedy Boarding we never got the opportunity to use it... I would pay £75 per person extra not to fly them the next time around.

Travel Agent - We always use Tots Too for our family vacations as nothing is too much trouble for them. I have a habit of going through a million iterations before deciding on destination, hotel, room type etc etc. Ann Marie - thank you for your patience!! Their service and pricing is always faultless.

Transport - We did not hire a car as we did not expect to be leaving the hotel much. Tots Too was able to get us complimentary hotel private transfers. Paphos airport is around 40mins from the hotel. The hotel normally charges EUR 170 return... not sure what a regular taxi is but they seemed very comfortable Mercedes cabs.

Airport - Paphos airport is small but clean and efficient. If you can get into their lounge (on departure) then I would recommend doing that... it has a very nice children's play area with Cartoons on most of the time to keep the little ones busy.

Rooms - Big and spacious. We had booked 2 Garden View Inter-connecting rooms with a complimentary upgrade to the Seaview room (SPG Gold Card). Having now stayed at the hotel I would have paid for that upgrade too. You could either have a view of construction or the marina - no competition! The rooms are fine... they could do with a lick of paint and a few other upgrades.

Service - Exceptional!!! Service (as mentioned in other reviews) exceeds what I have experienced in some of the top resorts around the world. Nothing is too much trouble - and with 2 kids there is always trouble! Thank you to all of the Le Meridien staff.

Food - Ok, so this one is a 50/50. They have a lot of selection... large buffett spread and loads of restuarnats to choose from. If you are a big eater you will love the portion sizes... however, we found the food lacking!! Our kids loved it - Mickey's restaurant. Kids were on full free board and we were on half board. Deserts were exceptional!! Also, the food and drinks (when not included) were expensive... we spent approx EUR 100 per day... and that was usually just for the one meal and a couple drinks by the pool. The Sushi at the Japanese restaurant was of very high quality. Also, room serivce will deliver from any restaurant - all you have to do is ask.

Penguin Club - Loved it, loved it, loved it... for the first time ever our daughter (3yrs) decided she wanted to stay there on her own. The Animation staff are great. Lots of activities for kids at the club and away from the club. Starting with morning pool games, aqua aerobics, afternoon club games, evening entertainment... brilliant !!!

Spa - We used the spa and the treatments were of very high quality.

Facilities - The hotel has a lot of facilities... multiple swimming pools, beach (well not white sandy), water sports, scuba diving, tennis, bowling, multiple bars & restaurants, kids club, mini golf, bikes on hire and much more... enough to keep you busy for the week and longer.

Limassol - Cannot say much about the city itself. We only stepped out once to visit a supermarket for some kids essentials.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this resort to families..."

Review from KM, guest in August 2010

" We enjoyed the holiday very much.  We liked both hotels, we felt a week in each place was right for us.  The Almyra is very good ... [continues with review of Almyra, read in full here] ... Le Meridien Limassol is obviously very different, much bigger, as an all singing all dancing resort.  Again, we enjoyed our time here.  There are many facilities, particularly for the children.  The kids club is excellent and T and R loved the disco and entertainment each night.  The pool area was also more interesting with a slide pool for them.  The rooms were again very good.  What would put us off returning is the quality of the food.  Athough there are various restaurants, you can only use your half board option in the main buffet restaurant.  We were disappointed with the quality of the children's food and the adult buffet (the Almyra probably did not help), it is hard to get excited about the buffet towards the end of a week so we could not have done two weeks.  Also, the surroundings in this restaurant are pretty functional, it is not a pretty place to spend your evening.  I was surprised your half board did not give you any money towards eating in the other restaurants.  We ate in some of the others and generally they are expensive and not that great, except for the Italian which is very good.  This may be more of an issue for us than others, we are not a fan of all inclusive/buffet style eating.

Having tried various places over the last few years, I think there seems to be no perfect place, there is always some element of compromise. I'd be interested in your thoughts.

I want to emphasise that I don't want you to think I am moaning as we had a great time, these are just some things we have thought about on reflection.  The dual centre worked very well for us.  Also, your help was excellent.  I feel that you explained the differences to me very well and we knew exactly what to expect.  We would definitely use Tots Too again."

Review from AJ, guest in October 2009

"We had a fabulous holiday at Le Meridien Limassol, the service was outstanding, the resort luxurious.  The children's facilities were excellent, if not a little under populated, the resort was very quiet - which was actually fine for us, we even ended up having our own pool for most of our stay at the palm villas.

We used all the facilities - children’s club, crèche and baby sitting and ate in most of the restaurants and we could not fault any of them. The girls went to the Penguin Club three times for 3 hours each time and were delighted with the place.  In fact the children enjoyed the entertainment and Penguin Club so much they kept asking us if they could go back !

The apartment was fine - maybe a little small and ideally next time we would have 3 bedrooms but it was furnished and serviced extremely well so no complaints at all.  Everything requested by you was in place and perfect so thank you very much.

From a personal point of view I found the flight time to Cyprus a little too long  - not for the two girls but for Rory even with his own seat so I feel next time we will book somewhere closer to home.  However, for our first holiday abroad with three little ones, booking with yourselves made the holiday really enjoyable.  I will definitely use you again and I have been very impressed with the service so far.  I just need to get N to book again in Jan !"

Review from TW, guest in May 2008

"Overall the family had a good holiday, our focus was having some down time and enjoying the sun and kids, and I'm happy to say the holiday provided that. I've listed the main points below:

Initial impressions: Not wow but OK, exterior seemed a little dated/weathered, but then there was some very nice areas as well like the area for the over 16's
Information: We found you really needed to search for information, the website didn't provide a huge amount the map of the resort layout would be beneficial on the site
Service: We found this a little inconsistent and bordering more on the average. Couple of the reception members need to work on some customer relations
Le Spa: Didn't use this add all, the sun was the main treatment we were after
Kids activities: The kids pool, beach, pengiun club and their staff was great
Food: The Fleuri restaurant was good, better then we expected, Mickeys provided the kids well, the Trattoria had good food and was nice change form the sometime hectic Fleuri
Rooms: The two rooms really work well for us, something we had tried before but will do in the future
Transfers: Good, although there was a little confusion on check out if it had been pre-arranged was sorted out eventually

Interesting things we pickup from this holiday were:
- Two connecting rooms work well when its just our family and I believe its more cost effective than the suite option
- The kids club came in handy (3yrs +), we haven't used this before
- Kids pool was really useful particularly for our 3yr old, it just meant you didn't have to be constantly in the water with them or watching them like a hawk"
