Helen falls in love with Costa Navarino
Posted on 14th Jun 2018
Greece has always been a favourite holiday destination of mine so to visit a new area on the Peloponnese was exciting . A direct flight from London in 3.5 hours to arrive at Kalamata Airport, being small and with only 2 luggage belts ensured a prompt and efficient exit. Then a 1 hour private car transfer through the countryside to the expanse of the Westin Resort. Featuring two resorts of the Westin Hotel and the Romanos Hotel, alongside an award winning golf course with amazing sea views, the Costa Navarino resort as something for everyone. Each has its own separate check in and lobby area but are next door to each other. A quick check-in and off you go to explore your room.
Many different room types for you to choose from including a deluxe Seaview with a good size balcony, Family one bedroom suites with a separate bedroom to the lounge, a full bathroom and additional shower/wc room. But you could treat yourself to an infinity room, all on the ground floor with your own private plunge pool, great for the kids to splash about in while you relax. The resort is built in a way that all of the rooms/blocks are linked with walkways and lifts so is definitely pushchair friendly.
The resort is tucked away and you cannot walk to any shops or town, 10 minutes in a taxi will get you to a small seafront village with a couple of supermarkets and stunning beachside restaurants for the authentic Greek experience. A further 10 minutes and you can visit the much larger town of Pylos of which you can easily spend a day exploring. ( about 20 euros each way in a taxi). Two large freeform swimming pools ( one of which is heated) , abundance of space and sun loungers surrounded by beautiful gardens.
Outdoor activities including Mountain Biking Tours, Tennis academy, Trekking and Hiking trips, Cultural Tours, Rock Climbing & Wine Tasting experiences will keep you busy and a great way to see the unspoilt countryside. The beach is a fine shingle and the water is crystal clear and great for swimming in, many loungers available and a beach bar to sample a daily cocktail. The beach bar is only open during day light hours as they operate a great Turtle protection area, Turtles return every year to lay their eggs and the hotel do all they can to protect the eggs to ensure safe hatching in the height of the summer. For indoor activities you can have fun in the huge indoor swimming pool, a bowling alley, sports centre, gym ( which is open 24 hours a day!) and relax in the beauty of the spa.
A weekly calendar of events is a great idea and highlights what the resort has planned for the week ahead. Maybe join in a Pilates class, Yoga or try our the local Greek dancing. Offers in the Spa and the Golf Academy might also catch your eye.
If you like to experience different styles of food this resort is perfect for you. Centred around the resort square ( Agora) there is a combination of 9 restaurants to choose from including Flame ( classic meat cuts), Armyra ( fish), Taverna (Greek), Nargile ( Middle Eastern), to name a few. All are accompanied with a good wine list, do try the local Greek Wine….It may just surprise you!
Now for the kids, trust me they will not get bored at the Costa Navarino resort. A great splash park for the little ones , lots of loungers in the shade which was good to see, a small waterslide area with 3 slides with lifeguards on duty for most of the day.A safe and secure creche and kids club with a door entry system and sign in/sign out procedure. Your little ones can join in the kids club with sand pits, games and activities, then have a sleep in the cutest quiet area with bunks beds and cots for nap times. Lunch can be provided too and they can work with any special needs or requirements you may need.
For the slightly bigger kids the resort offers a great Whats App Group which arranges tournaments, sports matches, movie time and many more. A great way to make friends and join in with all that is going on. The App can also be used by the grownups if you wish, nothing is too much trouble and anything you ask they will reply. I strongly recommend you pre book any childcare and clubs before you travel, especially during high season. Space is limited and you would not want any disappointed little ones when you arrive.
The resort also offers a great and innovative app that you can download to your device. On this app you can make all of your dining reservations, spa reservations, details of the kids activities and a resort interactive map. Trust me this is a great idea and helps make for an efficient and hassle free stay.
The Westin Resort Navarino is a great all round resort for families of all ages, you will not be disappointed.
