Here are our best hotel recipes and foodie secrets from MasterChef contestant (and Tots Too managing director!), Emma Spitzer. Emma will be competing against 39 other culinary hopefuls in the 2015 competition, for the coveted trophy announced at the end of April.
Having road-tested the wonderful cuisine at Tots Too hotels from around the world, Emma has picked up lots of inspiration for the dishes she prepares in the competition. Enjoy her foodie picks from Tots Too hotels and the recipes she managed to extract from their award-winning chefs.
Ritz-Carlton Abama’s Apple & Cinnamon Muffins
I love the choice of food at Abama. One of the highlights is the breakfast with the pancake and waffle section; forget the kids, it’s the adults you see eagerly awaiting in line however it was their freshly baked muffins that had me knocking down the door of kitchen to ask for the recipe. Click here for the recipe to my favourite one, Apple and Cinnamon Muffins For gourmet dining, I love El Mirador for their fresh fish dishes and Kabuki for a Japanese feast that rivals many of the top London restaurants I’ve enjoyed.
Almyra Hotel’s Cypriot Style Cous Cous
I was really impressed with the food at the Almyra, it’s as stylish as the hotel itself and you are spoilt for choice. The grills in particular were a highlight for me and I just loved the Cypriot style Cous Cous which I managed to get the chef to write down for me. The Almyra is perfectly positioned in the centre of Paphos where there is an abundance of local restaurants and tavernas to choose from, though I would recommend exhausting all dining options at the Almyra before venturing out.
Gloria Resort’s Almond & Pistachio Biscuits
I’d never been a huge fan of all-inclusive hotels until I holidayed at the Gloria Golf Resort with my family last year. Not only were we totally spoilt for choice in where to dine but also how to dine. The A la carte options were very good, ranging from Chinese, Italian and Japanese. Then there were the amazing Turkish and internationally themed buffets in the evening which were unlike any other buffets I have experienced. Freshly cooked meat and fish on the Turkish BBQ, Meze selections and baklava were seriously good. Never one to pass by the deserts, here is a recipe for Almond & Pistachio Biscuits
Sheraton Pine Cliffs’ Fresh Cataplana
My most memorable meal at the Sheraton Algarve was at O Pescador seafood restaurant. The recommendation to expectant diners is always to try their speciality, the Cataplana, a bowl of freshly caught fish and Seafood. Obliging as always, it was equally as good as they claim it to be and I can heartily recommend it. Understandably the recipe is closely guarded but this is a close second.
These recipes go down just as well with little tasters as big ones, so you can liven up family mealtimes too. Do watch out for Emma as the MasterChef series continues. She has not given us a single clue as to how well she does in the competition but she will be sharing all manner of recipes and food tips to Tots Too followers over the course of the series.
