  • CA 25 June 2014 We had a great time in Porto Elounda thank you. Helped by the fabulous weather even that early on in the season…

I’ll start with the hotel: Good location and great setting for young children. I loved the fact that the beach and the pool were so close to each other, making the day a lot easier to manage: choose a spot and go from beach to pool to beach to pool. The beach was just the right size, the water incredibly clear. No need to go to the Caribbean. The resort doesn’t feel huge which I appreciated.

The rooms were fine, big enough and with a lovely terrace all overlooking the sea.

The kids club was excellent. It looked brand new and a fantastic space for the little ones, although you have to take a (motorised) buggy to get there as it’s a bit far to walk for little legs in the heat, but all part of the fun. We took our two boys (4,5 and 2,5) to have a look the day before they were supposed to start. They immediately felt very at ease there and obviously loved the space and layout. The eldest one didn’t want to go to a kids club so I was a bit worried we may have paid for nothing, but after the first day he was the one who wanted to go in the morning. It was helped by the fact that they were often on their own or with only 2 or 3 other children their age! The staff were very good and friendly. It’s the first holiday in a few years we had time to ourselves, actually managed to get out of the resort and explore a little and just think about something else than the children. Without any worries knowing they were having fun.

The food was also very good. We ate at one of the restaurants one night which was excellent (the Old Mill) but we found that the main restaurant was actually perfect. Easy with the children as it’s a buffet and serving very good greek food, with enough variation to find something the children will eat.

Now the minuses… To stay on the food subject the offering around the pool/beach area for a snack at lunch time was very poor, 3 very expensive items on the menu of not very good quality. There is a restaurant there so I’m sure they’re trying to encourage people to eat there but that’s the worst menu I’ve seen in that sort of setting.

We had a problem in the rooms for quite a few days so didn’t get as much rest as we hoped. The fuse box on the children’s bedroom side was making a continuous buzzing sound. When that was eventually fixed it’s started in our room! We mentioned it three or four times to reception before finally getting the manager involved on the last day, who said we should have talked to him direct from day one! A strange way to manage a hotel if only the manager can get things done. Anyway he has since offered us a free upgrade if we book again next year, so we may book through you again!

As for the service you provided it was very efficient and reliable. From the information and help at the booking stage, to the location of the rooms (we were on the first floor, at the end of the corridor so easy and quiet), to the flight booking and transfer service. It all went very smoothly.

So - a big thank you for a very enjoyable holiday for all of us. I’ll definitely use your company again.

    As for a score - 4.5.

  • JC 31 July 2012 "Overall, very nice stay and great hotel – good hols all round.

The kids club was a bit disappointing, primarily because in the 1st week there were hardly any participants, sometimes only 1 or 2 kids (plus wrong age for our son), so we didn’t put him in at all throughout our stay. Also, there seemed to be a competing kids’ club within the hotel that was better attended but which had to be booked prior to holiday at extra cost.

We ate out all nights bar one as we had a car. We were B&B but overall found the prices for eating in the hotel really took the mick (especially lunch/snacks where average quality food), I guess to be expected but when one could eat out in Elounda, Nikolai etc. for 1/3rd of the price then why bother eating in.

    Thanks, hope that helps."

  • JB 28 July 2012 "We had a lovely holiday thanks. Please find below some thoughts about the hotel. I am happy for these to be shared.

The hotel was lovely although not as stylish and chic as the St Nicolas Bay. It felt a little tired and could do with a make over in parts. It certainly feels different to the other two properties (the suites and the Elounda Mare) but obviously they are more expensive! The bathroom needed an overhaul and decent deck chairs around the pool/beach would be good and do a lot.

The service was mostly excellent although on our arrival it was shabby - lots of dispute amongst the staff about whether our room was actually ready or not (at 3pmish). We had to wait an hour to get in which wasn't great.
The room itself was perfect for us. H, in the lounge on a sofa bed was in a completely separate room with a proper door and we all slept very well! Lovely balcony and plenty of room.

The food was generally good - breakfast as you would expect, half board dinners good. We were especially happy that you could get a cash amount from the half board allowance to offset dining in another restaurant - great idea! The Italian by the pool was superb and H played with her friends in between courses on the lovely grassy area there. This made for an ideal evening.
Dinner at the Elounda Mare was excellent! Service and food.

The kids club was fantastic and H was very happy - great facilities and excellent staff!

The weather was terrific if windy at times but that didn't affect a thing - we had a super time and H made some lovely friends which made her very happy."

  • Atarra of Tots Too 07 May 2011 I stayed at the porto elounda de luxe resort in May 2011 and I was extremely impressed! It is in a gorgeous location, enjoys breathtaking views over the Gulf of Mirabello and it really is a perfect retreat for families. Facilities include a large salt water swimming pool and a small salt water children's paddling pool by the beach, table tennis, two tennis courts, an 18-hole championship course, a kids club and crèche, a ‘Thermais’ heated indoor pool, sauna, Turkish hammam, gymnasium as well as a state of the art 2.200m² Six Senses Spa™ with thalassotherapy pool and thermal suite, a “Thermais” indoor pool which children can used when when accompanied by a parent, a Playiada" which is a traditional Cretan village square filled with boutiques and lovely quaint church.

I was very impressed with the beach here, it is private and sandy, a small cove like beach very safe beach, sheltered and shallow making it easy for little ones to walk into the sea. It features sunshade/lounger platforms, beach service and an array of water sports from jet skis to windsurfing and PADI certified scuba diving. As the pools and beach are in the same area it makes it all so convenient for families who don't have to trek from one place to another.

The choice of restaurants all offer views across the bay, including the Odysseus tavern which is right on the water’s edge, Nafsika restaurant serves the buffet breakfast which is fantastic and offers such a wide choice, table d'hote dinner (starters & desserts in buffet style) and dining a la carte in the olive grove of the Elies restaurant in the evening and lunch right by the water’s edge in the Odysseus taverna serving fresh seafood and Greek dishes are exceptional! There is also a small snack restuarant by the beach and pools. The food is on the pricey side where bottles of wine start from 25 euros, a toasted sandwich starts from 12 euros to 23 euros but the portions are big so worth the money. They offer a Dine Around option (at a supplementary charge)which includes 3 evening meals at the porto elounda DE LUXE RESORT and in its sister hotels, Elounda Peninsula and Elounda Mare.

All rooms offer an amazing sea view and are very spacious. They are located in the main building of the hotel and are about 130 metres from the sea & main pool, between 5-10 min to walk otherwise you will always see staff in their club cars whizzing around the resort to take guests to the beach or to anywhere else in the resort at your request.

There are many reviews on Trip Advisor where people have commented that the rooms here are tired looking, dated & in need of a refurbishment and yes, this was the case when I was there last year but since then most of the rooms have been refurbished, these include the connecting Porto Deluxe Rooms and 2 Bed Suites.
The crèche and kids club is very impressive! It is located in a separate area from the pool and beach so as not to disturb guests who are seeking a less noisier environment and the staff here are superb, great with the kids and very enthusiastic. The Children's Park (kids club) is complimentary for children from 5 to 12 years and the program comprises of swimming water park and beach games, football, basketball and workshops.

The Children’s Ark which is at a charge is for ages 6 months to 5 years and is run by professional nannies. Charges are from € 60,00 full day and €50 half day. All children are given a a welcome kid’s gift bag upon arrival at the hotel, they offer a Children’s Dining room which is open daily from 6 pm, after dinner, children can explore the teenagers’ entertainment center, there are special rates for children's sea-sports, golf lessons, tennis lessons, private swimming lessons, baby-sitting starts at 7pm at a charge from and a nanny service is available from 7am to 7pm if required (at a charge).

In all restaurants there is a children’s menu and fresh baby food can be ordered, there is the possibility to rent sterilizers, bottle warmers, strollers, baby relax, pottys, stepstools and infant’s bathtubs and they is also the possibility to baby-proof the room (plugs, corners, doors) - the resort has to be advised upon reservation Baby-nappies and swim-nappies can be purchased from the resort too - they really do think of everything!

If you fancy leaving the resort and exploring the neighbouring town of Elounda it's worth doing as there are many restaurants here which are family friendly, some reasonably priced and some on the more pricier side but there are lots to choose from. Elounda is a 25 min walk downhill but a steep walk back to the hotel uphill so worth getting back in a taxi which is approximately 7 euros. The restaurants in town were lovely, very reasonably priced and very family friendly.
