Kids holidays can be a lot of fun and entertaining but can also be very stressful. Let us help dispel some of the myths around kids’ holidays and offer some advice to make them as enjoyable as possible.

Luxury Kids Holidays

• It is possible to have the best of both worlds; a kids holiday that is as fun for the adults as it is for the kids. The main thing is to select a resort that offers optional childcare so that the choice is there if you wish to have some downtime, or just a meal without intrupptions
• Pack well. Bored kids are unhappy kids and will therefore spoil your fun too. Ensure you have plenty of toys/activities/entertainment devices to keep them amused. Once the pool and other exciting hotel offerings have done their job, they will need some other distractions.
• Select a destination for your family holiday where you know there will be the right food to cater for them. Most hotels offer a varied choice of dining options with international and local cuisines on the menus. Any specific dietary requirements can we catered for to ensure you don’t have to worry about this every mealtime.
• Kids are more adventurous than we often give them credit for. By introducing to them to activities out of their normal comfort zones, you get to see what they are really capable off. Some hotels offer things like rock climbing, sports academies, cookery classes, lessons in marine life and local crafts such as pottery and painting.
• Make sure you have enough space! It might be point number 5 but it is actually one of the most important factors to a successful kids family holiday. We don’t all share a room at home so doing this on holiday requires a big adjustment. There is nothing worse than tiptoeing around a sleeping baby, or a child that’s a light sleeper. Equally the type of bed they sleep in can be a factor so make sure when you book; you identify the type of sleeping arrangements, bed or cot and whether there is a door separation or not if you book a suite.

Holiday with Kids

At Tots Too, our experience as both a family tour operator, and parents mean that we have thought of many of the things you may not have done. There is a big difference between a “family friendly holiday” and a “holiday with kids.” By this, we mean that whilst a hotel or resort may accept children, they don’t always cater to them. Some parents like knowing there will be fewer kids around but will your sociable child who wants to meet other kids and make some noise without raising eyebrows. Will fussy eaters be able to cope with menus catered to more of an adult palate?

Family Friendly Holidays

A truly family friendly holiday is where the hotel or resort actively welcomes kids and does its best to please and entertain them. They offer creative and interesting kids menus, plenty of exciting activities and accommodation to reflect that families need space, but that kids need to be kept close by.

From around the age of 10 upwards, and sometimes younger, kids become more vocal about how and where they want to holiday. When this happens, it’s great to involve them. Get a map and start plotting where you might want to travel to and what sort of things they want to experience on holiday. A kid that has a say is a kid that is likely to enjoy and appreciate it a lot more!

Many of our clients have families where there is an awkward span in age ranges and we aim to find the perfect place to suit every family member.

For our Big Kids collection, we have highlighted those resorts where there are activities that older children would particularly appreciate. These may be more adventurous sports, a particularly well run kids club, or interesting excursions in the area. Either way, there’ll be lots to boast about back at school on your return.
